Washington Redskins Rumors

NEWS

Shanahan won’t name starting QB

Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he won’t name a starting quarterback before the start of training camp.

The team recently signed Rex Grossman, but it was assumed that he would serve in a backup role.

Shanahan said that he doesn’t see any reason to name a starter before he starts working with the quarterbacks.

He said it’s important he gets a feel for who he is going to work with and see how the relationship develops.

This certainly cannot please Jason Campbell, who always seems to have his starting job up for grabs.

Sims visits Redskins

San Francisco 49ers free agent veteran offensive tackle Barry Sims visited with the Washington Redskins but did not receive an official contract offer.

Sims, 35, probably isn’t the age the Redskins are looking to add along their depleted offensive line, but he could help out for a couple years until they can draft some younger players.

The visit was termed a good one and Sims and the Redskins reportedly did discuss some different contract options.

Sims is expected to return to San Francisco and talk things over with his wife this weekend before making a decision on what to do next.

He started seven games for the 49ers last year and played in all 16 games, proving that he is still plenty durable even at age 35. He has started 134 games in his career between the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers.

Redskins interested in Bryant

The Washington Redskins have expressed interest in wide receiver Antonio Bryant and are bringing him in for a visit.

The Redskins may need to fill some holes at the position after Antwan Randle-El signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bryant, at 29-years old, is still in the prime of his career and would give the team another red zone target.

He struggled last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but who wouldn’t with those quarterbacks?

He was outstanding in 2008 when he had Jeff Garcia throwing to him, racking up more than 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns.
