Washington Redskins Rumors

NEWS

Is Zorn’s job in jeopardy?

After losing to the hapless Detroit Lions, questions about Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn’s job status are coming fast and furious.

Many Redskins fans are clamoring for owner Daniel Snyder to make a change after just three games.

Fans were already miffed at Zorn’s hiring, and the team’s collapse down the stretch last year didn’t help matters.

Zorn has a laid back attitude that fans don’t particularly like, and the head coach has had issues with star running back Clinton Portis on several occasions.

The team isn’t likely to make a change yet, but Zorn needs to start winning some games in a hurry.

Zorn’s job safe for now

After Sunday’s embarrassing loss to the Detroit Lions, Redskins fans are already calling for head coach Jim Zorn’s head. But according to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter, that’s not going to happen.

Zorn came to Washington tabbed as a brilliant offensive mind in Seattle. After all, that’s why Washington hired him to be the offensive coordinator before eventually promoting him. But under his watch, the offense has struggled mightily and after last year’s great start, the team has been dreadful. The Redskins are 1-2 and could easily be 0-3.

With a game against equally-inept Tampa Bay next weekend, Zorn will have an opportunity to momentarily quiet his critics. But the Bucs have a far more talented defense than the Lions. While his job is seemingly safe this week, Zorn may not survive another lackluster performance.

Skins Drop Season Opener to Giants

The Redskins came to the Meadowlands on Sunday… and the reigning division champs left with their first division victory, as the Giants beat the Redskins 23-17 in Week 1 of NFL action.

QB Jason Campbell, despite having consistency with an offensive coordinator for the first time in his career, looked unremarkable, finishing 19 of 26 for 211 yards, with one garbage-time TD, one INT, and one backbreaking fumble recovered by Giants’ DE Osi Umenyiora and returned 37 yards for a TD.

Washington was held to a paltry 272 yards, also a credit to the Giants stellar defense. The Giants D created two turnovers and sacked Campbell three times.

Washington’s only touchdowns occured on a gadget play on fourth-and-8 right before halftime, where they faked a field goal and waltzed into the end zone, and with less than two minutes left in the game.

The Redskins get a bit of a (potential) reprieve with the St. Louis Rams coming to town for their home opener on Sunday. The Rams were blown out 28-0 by the Seahawks in Week 1, and besides Steven Jackson, look relatively lifeless already.
