A Bettis on the ‘Skins?
No, that’s just backup RB Ladell Betts.
The NFL preseason is a time to work out the kinks of learning an offense and defense for each team, giving them some much needed preparation for the regular season. Chalk the equipment guys up as appreciative of the preseason too - first, after this gaffe by the Detroit Lions in their first game, and now…
In the ‘Skins first game on Thursday night, Betts’ uniform included one extra letter placed serendipitously in a place that happens to also be the name of a soon-to-be Hall of Fame RB, former Pittsburgh star Jerome Bettis.
The D.C. Sports Bog quoted Betts (no “i”) as saying, “Actually, I do like Jerome Bettis, but I don’t prefer to have his name on my back,” he said. “I wasn’t upset or anything. I think the equipment people felt bad, but I wasn’t mad at them.”
Hopefully they get it sorted out by the time the Redskins’ next preseason game rolls around. They play the Steelers at their home preseason opener on Saturday night. Kickoff is schedule for 7:30 p.m.
